WNV Program

Program Objectives

The Fayette County Mosquito-borne disease program serves to effectively manage mosquito populations and prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases such as West Nile virus (WNV) by collecting field data, education, and eliminating mosquito habitat. The program is a virus monitoring program and not an exterminating service.

The program's mosquito control program is based on scientifically planned management tactics and control strategies that reduce the abundance of mosquitoes in a timely manner.
This method is commonly referred to as “Integrated Vector Management” (IVM) and incorporates six basic methods: public education, mosquito and vector surveillance, preventative practices, biological control, physical control, and chemical control.
